About Kenniskring

Amsterdam is knowledge

In Amsterdam there is a broad spectrum of knowledge present. In seven areas of knowledge Amsterdam even ranks among the top regions of the world.

Seven spearheads

1.     a strong creative industry

2.     an outstanding logistic network via Schiphol, the ports and the world-famous flower auction in Aalsmeer

3.     a strong position from the international perspective in the area of IT and new media

4.     financial and business services

5.     life sciences

6.     the world famous flower auction in Aalsmeer and the wholesale foodcompanies

7.     toerism and conferences

These clusters function outstandingly because knowledge is exchanged efficiently between institutions, companies and government authorities, not only within a cluster, but also through interconnections between the different clusters.

Sharing knowledge

Knowledge exchange is high on many people’s list of priorities; after all, in unity lays strength.

The KennisKring Amsterdam (Amsterdam Knowledge Network Foundation) forms an overarching knowledge network in the region. In the last sixteen years the KennisKring has grown to be a distinguished platform, with approximately 7000 knowledge partners. The network includes a wide variety of entrepreneurs, lecturers and researchers at knowledge and educational institutes (including of course the two universities and the three colleges of higher education), administrators and policy officials of regional and provincial government authorities and organizations such as the Deloitte, KPMG, Boer&Croon, PwC, Ernst&Young, Schiphol Group, KLM, TNT, Van Gansewinkel, Alliander, ING, Deutsche Bank, Rabobank, ABN AMRO Bank, Shell and Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce. What they have in common is natural curiosity and eagerness to learn more. Together, these partners endeavour to strengthen and make better use of the knowledge infrastructure which is already in place.

KennisKring Amsterdam is more than a network

To make the Amsterdam region better known as an eminent knowledge centre, a programme called Amsterdamse Innovatie Motor (AIM) has been started. The projects in this programme are intended to stimulate knowledge exchange and the creation of spin-offs for the universities and knowledge institutes in the areas of IT, creative industry, life sciences, financial services, logistics and sustainability.
